Passengers at the Kisumu International Airport were gripped by panic on Tuesday evening after a man accidentally fired his pistol.The male passenger was in the process of handing over his weapon to officers for screening when he accidentally pulled the trigger.Confirming the incident, Airport Manager Joseph Okumu and Kisumu County police Commander John Kamau said the licensed firearm holder fired his pistol accidentally.The incident is reported to have caused panic at the airport as passengers and airport workers scampered for safety when they heard the gunshots.Authorities, however, assured them that it was an accident and there was no cause for alarm.Mr Okumu said the two shots were fired inside a room where travelers hand over firearms for safekeeping as they board planes, adding that no injuries were reported during the incident.Okumu further said that the incident did not interfere with operations at the airport.“The male passenger who was not identified was in the process of handing over the weapon to officers for screening when he accidentally fired two rounds,” said Mr Okumu.“It was a minor mishap and there is no course for alarm.
