Paul Njoroge, who appeared before acting chief magistrate Stephen Mbungi allegedly committed the crime at Kiganjo bus stage in Thika Sub-county.

The accused allegedly beat his wife Caroline Njoki, after he allegedly found her conversing with a suspected lover at the Kiganjo bus stage.

The court’s prosecutor Stella Oyagi said it took the intervention of members of the public to save Njoki from more assault.

The complainant was taken to Thika level five hospital, where she was treated and discharged.

In mitigation, Njoroge asked the court to release him so that he could fend for the family as his wife is unemployed.

“I beat my wife out of anger, I love her very much but she offended me that day, she could not even pick my phone, my children were hungry and I wanted her to cook for them, which forced me to give her a thorough beating,” said Njoroge.

The accused was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail as the case will be mentioned again on March 2, 2015.
