A man who is said to have killed his 26-year-old lover on their first date has been charged at the Milimani high court with murder.

Richard Mogaka was on Thursday arraigned before Judge James Wakiaga where he denied killing Lydia Nyaboke around the day of July 23rd this year.

The prosecution said he committed the offence at Mutuini area of Ngong forest, in Dagorreti South Constituency.

Defence lawyer Robert Bosinge asked the court to grant him bail pending determination of the case.

The same case saw Judge Wakiaga disqualify himself on grounds that he was well-known family member of the accused.

According to the prosecution, the deceased was staying with her younger brother in Nairobi's Ngara estate and was scheduled to meet the boyfriend on their first date.

She had promised to come back home before the day ended.

In a sworn affidavit, Special Crime Prevention Unit officer Isaac Muriuki said the accused guided the police to the area where he had strangled and dumped the body of the deceased.
