A man accused of killing a Swiss couple in Mombasa has been detained for 14 days to allow police officers conduct investigations.

The bodies of Paul Werner and his wife Marrianne Boerner were discovered in a bush in Kiembeni area, Mombasa.

Senior principal magistrate Diana Mochache allowed police to detain Geoffrey Mwiri as they complete investigations.

Mochache also ordered that Mwiri be taken for a mental assessment to ascertain his ability to stand trial.

Investigator Edward Mwandihi said they believe the couple were murdered at their home in Marianne Villa on August 20.

Mwandihi said their caretaker is the prime suspect in the murders.
