A man on Monday pleaded guilty to charges of being in possession of electronic items stolen from a Kisumu media house.

David Omondi entered his own guilty plea when presented before a Kisumu court to face accusations connecting him with the theft of a TV set, decoder and a computer monitor valued at Sh3.5 million from Lake Victoria radio and television studios.

The suspect, who denied the main charge of theft, told the court, presided over by chief magistrate Lucy Gitari that he had returned all the items found in his possession, as alleged in the alternative charge.

He identified the items brought before the court as those that had been found in his possession.

He was accused alongside Daniel Okal and others who were not before court. Okal, however, denied the theft charge.

The particulars of the case were that on the night September 20 and 21, Omondi, who was a guard at the Dunga Beach-based premises, and his accomplices broke into the station and stole the equipment.

The alternative charge read that on October 11 at Sondu market in Nyakach, Omondi was found with part of the said items.

He faced a second charge of failure to use reasonable force to prevent the theft, as a guard.

The magistrate put aside the matter to have Omondi think through the self-indicting plea.
