A man aged 30 was on Thursday arrested for allegedly raping and killing a 10-year-old girl in Mwala sub-county, Machakos County.
The girl was raped and killed on Tuesday and her body dumped in a bush. Police arrested the suspect after investigations.
Yathui location chief Stephen Kiiki said the suspect was employed as a herdsman in the area and used to look after cattle in the bushes where the body of girl was found. He added that the suspect had mud on his knees and his clothes were stained with blood.
The chief argued residents to make sure they employ people with good morals to avoid such incidents in future. He also advised residents to always keep an eye on their girls and report any rape cases to the police immediately.
The suspect is been held at Masii police station and will arraigned in court after police complete their investigations.
