A 26-year-old man has been arrested and is being held at Thika police station for allegedly hacking a 28-year-old man to death with a panga at Kang'aithi area in Thika town.

Confirming the incident today, Thika police commander, Francis Muthamia said the suspect, identified as Gideon Iregi, will help the police with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Muthamia said the suspect was arrested at his uncle’s home in Gatundu South sub-county where he had allegedly gone to hide following the incident which occurred on May 21 and reportedly confessed to committing the crime.

The suspect is alleged to have hacked his friend with a panga at his home following a quarrel.

The deceased, Vincent Mumu bled to death after he sustained deep cuts on his neck, face and left thigh.

The suspect was alleged to have carried his body from his house at Gachege area to Makamu area where he dumped it in a ditch a few meters off the Thika-Gatundu road.

The suspect’s blood stained clothes were found in a pit latrine near his house while the alleged murder weapon, a blood stained panga, was found in his house.

The police boss said the suspect would be arraigned in court after police complete their investigations.

“We have to carry out investigations before arraigning the suspect in court to face murder charges,” said Muthamia.
