A man in Igembe North has been arrested for circumcising his wife in public.
According to witnesses, the suspect assaulted the victim on Monday and went ahead to mutilate her genitals in an incident the woman's mother described as savage.
Igembe North police boss Peter Kimani has confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect was arrested and is waiting to face charges.
“My daughter said her husband saw her on a motorcycle and suspected her of having an affair with the rider. Later, he accosted her on a footpath near her house and beat her up as she screamed for help,” the victim's mother said.
Mr Kimani revealed that the assault came after a quarrel with the suspect, who suspected the wife of having a love affair outside their marriage.
“The police later arrested him and escorted the woman to hospital,” said Kimani.
