Bironga, a suspect who was arrested for allegedly defiling a minor. [Photo/Dennis Chacha.)Police in Igonga Division, Kisii South sub-county on Thursday evening arrested an elderly man who allegedly defiled his 3-year-old granddaughter.
The suspect identified as Bironga is said to have locked the minor in his Miranda village house, Bomariba location before raping her.
His wife Hellen Bironga caught him red-handed committing the act to the minor and raised alarm. Neighbors arrived, beat the suspect mercilessly before Nyumba Kumi officials came to his rescue.
The suspect was later taken to Igonga administration police post and later transferred to Gesonso police station.
Area assistant chief Benjamin Opanga condemned the incident saying the law will take its course to serve as an example to the rest.
"Bironga must be punished for the raping the minor. I urge parents to the child to follow up the matter until the child gets justice," said Opanga.
A resident, Henry Nyabuto said the suspect has been causing a disturbance in the village since he is an alcohol addict.
