Police in Eldoret are investigating a middle-aged man who was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly locking himself in a guest room for three consecutive days.

Members of the public had raised concerns over the peculiar habit of the Kenya - Somali origin man forcing the police to break into the Maili Nne guesthouse in the outskirts of Eldoret town.

Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga confirmed the arrest of the man whom he said will be handed to the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) for further investigations.

"The owner of the guesthouse at Maili Nne in the outskirts of Eldoret town informed me that he had a client who had been sleeping for the past three days and efforts to knock the door so as to know whether he was alive or not had proved futile," Mutunga explained.

"I dispatched my officers to the scene who also knocked on the door but the man did not open it. Even after breaking into the room he did not wake up," he added.

The man was later identified as Mohamed Noor from Wajir who claims to be a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer at 9KR in Eldoret.

"We will take him to the hospital so that he can be examined because it is likely to be a mental case," noted the OCPD who assured locals that the police were on high alert and ready to respond to any criminal activities.
