A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Kathiani Sub County for allegedly marrying a form three student.
The suspect is alleged to have stayed with the student for three weeks in his house.
The girl’s parents had allegedly launched a search for their daughter immediately she went missing. With assistance from the community policing team under the Nyumba Kumi Initiative, they were able to trace and locate where their daughter was staying for three weeks.
The girl who is a form three student at a local secondary school in the area had not gone home for three weeks which prompted her parents to report the incident to the area chief who helped find the girl.
Confirming the incident, Kaewa location chief Titus Mbuva said that it was against the law to marry students and pupils who are under 18 years. He also argued parents to be more responsible and report any cases of early marriage to the police.
Mbuva added that it was parents duty to advice their children in order to avoid early marriage cases which have been in the rise in the region.
The suspect is been held at Kathiani police station and will be arraigned in court after police complete their investigation.
