A middle-aged man from Wamboo, Ekalakala, Machakos County has been arrested for allegedly marrying a minor.
The man who is currently remanded at Masinga police station allegedly married a standard eight girl from Wendano Primary in Ekalakala.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, Masinga sub-county education officer, Dickson Wambua, said that after investigations they realised that the school girl was married to a man by the name Mulinga.
Dickson says that the parents of the girl have already collected a letter from Wendano primary to prove that the girl was a pupil at the school which will help police in investigations.
Wambua has warned men marrying minors saying that such acts will not be allowed in Masinga and in Machakos County as a whole.
“I have asked the parents to go and get a letter from the school. They were given the letter to prove that the girl was a pupil in the school. We expect stern action to be taken against the man for marrying a school girl,” said Wambua.
Both the man and the girl are remanded at the Masinga police station and are expected to be arraigned in court after police investigations.
