Police in Mombasa on Wednesday arrested a man after he was found in possession of a firearm at the Likoni Ferry Channel.
Likoni DCIO Henry Ndombi who confirmed the incident said the suspect identified as Sammy Muga is being detained at Likoni Ferry Police Station.The suspect was arrested by the detectives at around 8:30am on Wednesday as he was about to cross the ferry from Likoni to Mombasa Island.According to Baraka FM, the suspect was found in possession of a pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.One of the passengers alerted ferry police after he spotted the protruding handle of the gun tucked on the man’s waist.The suspect claimed that he was from Kwale County and was heading to work in Mombasa.According to the daily, the suspect said he was a KWS official and even produced his company ID card. However, the officers decided to detain the suspects after realizing his pistol had 14 rounds of ammunition instead of 15.Ndombi said police have launched investigations into the matter, adding that the suspect who is in police custody is being interrogated.“The suspect has been arrested and we are investigating to know why he was in possession of a gun,” said Ndombi, as quoted by Baraka FM.
