Police in Mombasa County have arrested a man suspected to be involved in a human trafficking syndicate.
Confirming the arrest, Likoni Police boss Willy Simba said the suspect identified as Mr Robert Msando was allegedly found ferrying six aliens in a private car.
Mr Simba said that Mr Msando and the six Ethiopians were arrested at the Likoni ferry channel following a tip-off from members of the public.
“We received a tip-off from the public that there were some suspicious characters in a private car,” said Simba.
The police boss said the suspects were arrested by Ferry police station officers while on their way to Tanzania.
“The foreigners did not have documents from the immigration department at the time of their arrest. The suspects were arrested for being in Kenya illegally. The car that was being used to transport the foreigners was being driven by a Kenyan identified as Robert Msando,”said Simba.
He added, “We suspect they were being smuggled to Tanzania through the Lunga Lunga border.”
He further said that security will be intensified in the area and crackdowns will be launched to keep illegal immigrants out.
The police boss confirmed that the suspects are in police custody adding that the driver will be charged with human trafficking and the Ethiopians will be charged with being in the country illegally.
