Police in conjunction with Kenya Power security officials have arrested a man in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area with vandalised electricity equipment including transformer oil and copper windings worth about Sh10 million.
Kenya Power acting Security Manager Major Geoffrey Kigen (Rtd) said the suspect, who is believed to be a member of a wider vandalism cartel operating in Nairobi and its environs, was nabbed in premises early Monday.
Kenya Power has intensified its fight against vandalism of transformers and incidences of vandalism have been on a decline in the last three years.
Among the measures the company has put in place to reduce vandalism include improved surveillance, closer cooperation with security agencies and the communities, and successful prosecution with vandals get jailed for up to 10 years.
