Police in Mombasa have arrested a man alleged to have stolen a G3 rifle from a police officer attached to the Likoni Police Station.

Confirming the arrest, Likoni DCIO Henry Ndombi said the suspect identified as Mr Mohammed Rashid Chambey was arrested after he was linked him to the incident.Ndomi said the suspect was arrested by CID officers at his house in Mrima area on Tuesday night.Chambey, 42, is said to have collaborated with Rahma Ali who was last year arrested by detectives while in possession of the firearm.Ali is suspected to be the one who broke into the officer's room and stole the firearm which was loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.“We can confirm the arrest of the suspect and this is a breakthrough for us and the entire team. The stolen firearm was used to carry out a series of robberies in the sub-county,” said Ndomi, as quoted by Baraka FM.The stolen rifle belonged to police constable Alexander Kipyegomen who was charged in court and later suspended for losing the firearm through negligence.

Police are searching for two other suspects, who are said to have been involved in the incident.
