Police officers in Eldoret have arrested a man with 40 number plates of cars believed to have been stolen.
Peter Onsogo, as he was later identified, was found in possession of several number plates belonging to cars stolen from Kenya and Uganda.
Eldoret West CID boos Ali Samatar confirmed the incident, saying they also recovered motorcycle spare parts as well as electronic gadgets during the crackdown at the suspects houses in Maili Estate, Eldoret town.
Locals had earlier on raided the house of the suspect and beaten him up before alerting the police to arrest him. The police boss also said investigations are under way to find other suspects in relation to the crime.
“We have been getting reports on the theft of cars and motorcycles in his region and the man identified as Peter Onsogo is now a key suspect helping us with investigations,” said Samatar, as quoted by the Star.
Samatar lauded members of the public for the role they played in the arrest of the criminal.
“We are very happy with how members of the public are working with us to deal with crime and we hope this will continue,” said Samatar.
Eldoret East Police boss Nelson Taliti has also affirmed that they have put in place all the necessary measures as the nation looks forward to the December festivities.
“We are preparing for the holidays and we expect to work with the public to stop crime which tents to increase especially robberies during the month of December,” said Taliti.
