Mutituni Sub Chief Wambua Musyoki who arrested the man said he was in possession of Sh3,000, which were fake.

He said the man was trying to use the money to buy goods in one of the wholesale shops in the area when the shop owner realised that the one thousand shilling notes were fake.

The man tried to escape but was caught by members of the public, who forwarded him to the sub chief.

"Assisted by Mutituni residents I have managed to arrest a man in possession of fake money. He had three one thousand Kenya shillings notes," said Musyoki.

Musyoki thanked the residents for cooperating with the authorities in arresting the man and for not taking the law into their hands.

The man was taken to Machakos Police Station and will be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
