An old man is nursing injuries at Thika Level Five Hospital after he was allegedly attacked by a mob for defiling a minor.
75-year-old James Musyimi allegedly plays with kids in Makongeni area and so they like him. Parents, likewise, could not have thought anything of the sort could happen to their children.
The three-year old was playing outside their house when she noticed the old man on his way from church. She allegedly followed him to his house.
The mother to the victim, Ann Njeri, said she called her several times before she decided to walk to the old man's house where she knew children usually go to play.
“On arrival, I noticed the house was closed from inside and I called the man but he did not answer. As I walked away, I heard my kid yell from inside and that is when I called the residents. We broke the door only to find him defiling her,” explained Njeri.
Following the incident, Thika Sub-county police boss Shadrack Maithya warned residents against such act and criticised those who take law onto their hands.
“It is astonishing that they took law into their hands rather than calling the police to arrest the culprit. Such men with evil motives should also not be part of the society,” Maithya said.
“He is now in the hospital but he will be prosecuted immediately he gets well,” he added.
The residents are now appealing to the police to prosecute such culprits as they are usually arrested and released later.
