This is according to Rongai OCPD Joseph Kioko who confirmed via a telephone interview on Tuesday.

Rongai OCPD Joseph Kioko said the suspect is being held at Rongai police station.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are over and ascertain if he is fit to take a plea,” said the OCPD.

The deceased, 75, was attacked in the middle of a prayer session at Sacred heart catholic church Kimangu.

He succumbed to injuries on Monday.

Tabitha Khalumba said his husband, Francis Emiri, left home for a church service on Sunday morning but upon reaching the church he was hit with a stick by a middle-aged man who stormed the church in the middle of a prayer session.

“I was preparing to go to church when I was informed of the attack by a neighbor who was also in the church,” she said.

She added that upon rushing to Rongai health centre, where her husband was taken by fellow worshippers, she found her husband bleeding profusely.

Emiri was then referred to Nakuru Level 5 hospital where he succumbed Monday morning.

Khalumba said that CT scans taken at the hospital revealed that Emiri had internal bleeding in the brain.

She said that his husband was a humble servant in the church terming his death as a big loss to the entire family and the church.

Peninah Wanjiru, a neighbor recounted how she heard a loud bang behind the church only for her to see people scamper for safety.

She said that when worshipers went to the rescue of Mr. Emiri, he was bleeding a lot.

“The attacker was arrested as he was attempting to attack another worshiper,” she said.

Wanjiru said that the attacker is well known in Kimangu village and has had a history of being a troublemaker.
