Angry locals on Sunday night attacked and seriously wounded a man who tried to rape a minor.
The incident took place in Chironge village in Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County.
The father of the minor Mr Bonface Bichobe said that his daughter was on her way home from the kiosk when the suspected identified as Maurice Chacha attempted to rape her.
"I could not believe it as Mr Chacha is my personal friend. It was shocking when my daughter narrated to mee what the man was doing to her," he said.
The young girl told her father that if it was not for a call that the man received, he could not have stopped raping her.
Area chief Abraham Gekonge, said that the man gave the girl Sh 20 and threatened to take her life away if she told anyone about the incident.
"The suspect when questioned said that it is the devil that lured him to commit the act," said the chief.
He warned locals against taking action into their own hands.
Mr Chacha sustained serious injuries on his head and he is at a local dispensary where he is nursing his wounds.
