A middle aged man is nursing serious injuries after he was attacked, following a quarrel that ensued between him and another man, over funeral money at Taraja area, Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County.
It is alleged that the suspect John Makori attacked the victim Edgar Mogesa after the latter asked about the money he gave him to pay at a funeral fund raising.
“Makori attacked Mogesa after a heated argument ensued between them. Mogesa was trying to ask Makori where he took Sh200 he received from Mogesa to pay at a funeral fund drive in the village towards the burial arrangements of one of the villagers who is yet to be buried," said Eunice Omwansa, a witness.
The suspect was angered, he took a wooden block and hit the victim several times from the back and left him for dead,”she added.
Mrs. Omwansa added that Makori who fled after the incident said that he will not apologize to anyone because he didn’t steal the money.
“He sent me the money through my M-Pesa and he should not claim back the money. He was trying to show me shame among the people but I have shown him. Let him go report me to police,” Mrs. Omwansa quoted the suspect.
Simon Okeyo area Nyumba Kumi official confirmed the incident and said the suspect is being pursued by police.
“The matter was reported to police and the suspect is being pursued. Members of the public who spot the suspect should report immediately to police so that he can be arrested to be charged over assault,” said Okeyo.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at Keumbu hospital.
