A 24 year-old man in Nyeri  has hit headlines after he slashed his wife and and two year-old son following an argument over the high price of maize flour, Nairobi News reports.

According to the man, the  wife was spending a lot of money on flour.  The incident is said to have occurred at around 5am in Ruring’u in  Nyeri county.

 The witnesses claim that the man attacked Mercy Njeri, for allegedly  spending a  great part of his income on Unga.

 The victims were rushed to Consolata Mathari Hospital where they received treatment.

The man is said to have surrended himself at Nyeri Central Police Station after committing the heinous act.

Confirming the incident Central Regional police boss Larry Kieng said that police are probing the matter. 

Meanwhile, leaders from both the opposition and Jubilee have continued to expressed mixed reactions over the high cost of living.

According to DP Ruto, the rise  in the prices of basic commodities can be attributed to drought in different parts of the nation. 

The leaders from the opposition have criticized the government for importing maize from Mexico in a bid to save lives of Kenyans affected by the ongoing drought in different parts  of the nation.
