A 21 year old from Kingongo village in Nyeri town on Friday attempted to commit suicide by jumping from a 20 meters mosque in Majengo.
The man was identified as Hassan Hussein.
Prayers in the Mosque were disrupted for three hours as the sight the at the top of the Minaret attracted hundreds of residents who begged him not to kill himself.
Efforts by the police officers and his friends who persuaded him not to kill himself were futile as he threatened to make true his threats of killing himself.
The officers had to forcibly climb up the Mosque where they apprehended Hassan.
His mother Hadija Wambui said his decision to attempt suicide might have been because of his younger brother`s death late last year.
“His brother died after being hit by a billiard ball at a pool center in Nyeri town, The man who hit him was arrested and later set free,” said Ms Wambui.
He is being held in Nyeri Central Police Station.
