A middle-aged man in Embu ended up killing himself moments after giving his mother a thorough beating.
Witnesses said the two had a family quarrel that led to the beating.
The suspect, 28, was found hanging from an unfinished building in Kiaragana village.
Witnesses told the star that the suspect went into hiding after the incident.
"Neighbours arrested him and tired his hands when he beat his mother but he managed to escape as they frogmarched him to the police station and he disappeared," Embu North Police Boss Mark Wanjala told the star.
Irate neighbours had vowed to teach the man a lesson saying beating your parents is something unheard of.
They termed the action as a bad omen to the community.
