A man beat his wife on Sunday accusing her for failing to inform her parents and relatives to attend the burial of his mother who was buried on Friday last week.
The incident happened in Geteri village Nyakoe, Kitutu Chache South constituency Kisii County.
Neighbors said the man identified as Andrew, a boda boda rider beat his wife Christine after she failed to explain why her parents and relatives failed to show up at the burial ceremony of his late mother
"I heard Andrew asking the wife why his mother, father and other relatives failed to attend the burial of his mother on Friday. When Christine failed to explain, the man descended on her with kicks and blows,” said Stella Mong’ina, a neighbor.
She said she alerted other neighbors after she heard Christine wailing.
Mong’ina said the woman’s failure to attend the funeral indicates that the woman is not ready to stay in the marriage.
Area Nyumba Kumi official Jared Ongeri confirmed the incident and said neighbors rescued the woman.
"I am happy that neighbors intervened and rescued the woman. Locals should ensure that they solve their differences in peace," he said.
