A man believed to be behind the eviction of an elderly Asian man and his family and demolition of their house in Parklands Nairobi, was released on a Sh300,000 cash bail.
Appearing before Milimani Senior Residence Magistrate Hellen Okwany, Francis Njeru Nyaga of Frank Logistics was accused of hiring goons to demolish a house worth 50 million shillings, whose lease had expired.
The Magistrate rejected a request by the Prosecution, to detain the suspect for a week, pending investigations and preference of charged levelled against him.
The case will be mentioned on Friday.
The affected family claims it has stayed in the house for about 42 years, only to be forcefully evicted by unknown developer, who claim he has been paying land rates to the Nairobi County government, for the piece of land, the family has been occupying.
Embakasi South MP Irshad Sumra and Nominated MP Sonia Birdi have since condemned the demolitions, and called for immediate action against persons behind the eviction.
The National Lands Commission (NLC) and the police launched investigations to establish the original ownership of the disputed piece of land.
NLC said that they had received complaints from various interested parties regarding the land whose reference number is 1870/1/337 and 1870/1/338 located along Jalaram road in Parklands.
Parties claiming ownership are required to produce at least six documents to support ownership including letter of allotment, receipt of payment, deed plans, leases and title deeds.
