Street violence and mob justice have been on the rise in Kibera with the latest being an incident of a man burned to death in unclear circumstances.
The deceased met his fate on Tuesday morning around Jamia Plaza near Zero Clinic for allegedly stealing from a local shop and photos and a video of him writhing in pain have since flooded social media.
Trouble is said to have begun for the deceased when he was accused of theft.
It however escalated when he allegedly made remarks that didn't go well with those punishing him. This is said to have prompted the mob to change tactic and torch him to death.
“This man has been burned to death after stealing from a nearby shop and causing havoc at Karanja Kibera. To add on that he talked ill of (a politician) before (the politician's) people. Guys should use common sense don’t steal better hustle,” read a Facebook post.
Another observer disapproved of the act, saying life was not to be taken in such ways.
“This is serious. Life’s so precious and should not be wasted that way,” she said.
Police are yet to confirm the incident.
Tuesday witnessed great disorder in Kibera as mobs took to the streets to demonstrate over the arrest of Cord politicians including Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire.
