A man in Nyakomisaro village in Kiong’anyo sub-location was buried alive on Sunday morning while mining gravel in a quarry.
The man identified as Alloys Mosima Masiba, 31, is said to have been working at the open mine at his home together with two other women who helped him carry pebble stones from the minefield to the nearby road.
Area assistant Chief Mr Justus Nyabuto said the deceased had dug deep underneath a rock before it broke down and killed him on the spot.
”The deceased wanted to dig deeper so as to defy space for burning the rock as a way of breaking it. Unfortunately, the rock was heavy with water since it has been raining and fell on him,” said Mokaya.
The rescue mission team from the Kisii County Government responded by helping to remove the victim out of the open cast mine. The body was later carried by Kisii Central police and taken to the Kisii Referral hospital mortuary.
The area chief of Bosongo location, Mr Ayienda Mokaya warned the residents against mining in such dangerous areas which have not been inspected by relevant authorities.
