There was drama yesterday morning at Nyanderema North Mugirango as villagers gathered to witness the flogging of a man.
It is said that the lazy Ogosi, not his real name, has been continuously beating his wife for no valid reasons.
He normally just sits around waiting for his wife to go out and do all the odd jobs in other people's shambas to in order earn bread for the family.
He then comes up and beats her and chases her away with her children when she fails to come back with his set target of the amount of money he needs.
This is why the community, led by one of their elders Livertone Manoti decided to punish him.
He was given several strokes of the cane in front of the residents at his home compound with more than 50 people witnessing.
However, some residents criticised the act terming it an embarrassment to the man and to the community.
“You cannot solve a problem using the same thinking that created the problem," said one resident.
"This is stupid all round! It is heartbreaking seeing our people in these circumstances”, added the resident.
