A man has been arraigned at Kisii law court for maliciously disconnecting a conductor which aided the supply of electricity at Nyangera area, and for doing so without the consent of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company.

Benard Mose Nyangaka allegedly at colluded with others not before the court to unlawfully disconnected a conductor on19th November 2014

The reason behind the disconnection of electric lines by the young men still remains  a mystery. During his judgment, Principal Magistrate, M. Nyagah released Nyangaka on a cash bail worth Sh10,000.

Nyangaka was charged for contravening section 64 [1] [d] of the Energy Act which stipulates that disconnection of electric wire is punishable before court of law.

Electric wire disconnection has been on the rise in areas bordering Nyangera where the KPLC has issued a stern warning against to those who are collaborating with others to vandalize electric power line. The KPLC has warned that they would find perpetrators and have them judged in court.

Joseph Kiptoo, KPLC field officer within Kisii South, highlighted some of the dangers of electric halts can cause saying that it was hazardous and could result in a major inferno in the affected areas.
