A Mombasa resident was on Monday fined an amount Sh3000, for trespassing at the Kenya Ports Authority.
Mr. Juma Mseko Hamis on Monday 05/03/2018 appeared before the principal magistrate, where he pleaded guilty, for trespassing in the ports without permission.
Mr Juma was being accused of trespassing at the Kilindini Port, without the permissions and consent of the managing director. The incident took place on March 4, 2018, at around 11 am.
While announcing the sentence for the culprit, after he had pleaded to have committed the offence, the Principal Magistrate, Charles Ndegwa said that Mr, Juma Mseko Hamis should pay a fine not less than Sh3000, failure to which he will have to serve a three months imprisonment.
In recent years, trespassing in Kilindini ports in Mombasa was not an illegal thing, residents could tour the place as much as they wanted, without acquiring any legal documents or pass, the place was mostly full especially on weekends, until when issues with terrorism started hitting the county.
After a number attacks by Al Shabaab militia group in different public places across the country, especially at the coast of Kenya and Northeastern part of the country, is when trespassing at the ports was banned.
