A man was on Monday arraigned before a Nakuru court for allegedly threatening to kill Jubilee Party Secretary General and Cabinet Secretary nominee Raphael Tuju.

Richard Aketch Njer, allegedly, sent the former Rarieda lawmaker a text message warning him against setting foot in his home village, a crime that reportedly happened at Kisumu township in Kisumu county on February 1.

''Do not set foot in your motherland, you should come with additional coffin,'' read the text, according to the charge sheet, as was seen by the Standard.

The accused, appearing before Nakuru Principal Magistrate Liz Gicheha, however, denied the allegations.

The prosecution asked the court to give more time for investigations as the suspect remain behind bars.

The application was however opposed by the accused's lawyer Steve Kabita who said his client has a right to be granted bond.

''For the sake of justice and humanity, grant bond and bail to him so that he can access basic services, this not a capital offence and he can be ordered to report to police if need be,'' Kabita said.

Nakuru Director of Criminal Investigation Jeremiah Musyoki has since been summoned by the court to explain the mistreatment allegations.
