A man charged with attempted rape and assault has been released on a Sh100,000 cash bail and a surety of a similar amount by a Thika court.
Dickson Muturi appeared before Thika principal magistrate J W Onchuru and charged with the offences.
The court heard that on August 20, this year at Kenol trading centre, the accused attempted to rape Doris Karimi against her will. The court also heard that the accused assaulted the lady after she declined the inhuman act against her. This was read as the second count of his charge.
The prosecution told the court that the accused being a friend of the complainant took advantage of their friendship and tried to extend the relationship to an intimate one which was against the lady’s will.
Karimi, who is the complainant, allegedly reported the matter to Kabati police station after which the accused was arrested and detained.
The accused denied the charges and asked the court to acquit him as they had already talked with the complainant to solve their differences out of court. However, the court did not consider his proposal and scheduled for a hearing on October 22.
