A man was on Monday arraigned before a Mombasa Court to answer to charges of harbouring two Ethiopian nationals illegally.

Mr Kamana Bahati was being accused of allegedly harbouring Mr Taphas Ijawure and Mr Ibrahim Siumi in his house.

The prosecution told the court that Mr Ijawure and Mr Siumi were arrested by the police after failing to produce passport or any documents to show their legal entry and stay in Kenya.

The court heard that the three were arrested on 25 August when the accused was found harbouring the two Ethiopians in his house in Likoni area Mombasa County.

Mr Bahati, however, denied the charges before Mombasa chief magistrate Julias Nang’ea and filed an application to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.

Magistrate Nang’ea granted the application and ordered the accused person to be released on a surety bond of Sh200,000.

According to Baraka FM the magistrate further directed the prosecution to bring an Ethiopia interpreter in court, before the two Ethiopians are charged.

This is after the court learned that the two Ethiopian nationals did not understand both English and Swahili language.

The case will be heard on September 4.
