A middle aged man who stole a friends Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card and used it to steal money from his bank account was on Friday arraigned in a court in Nakuru to face theft charges.
Geofrey Otieno 34, denied before Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Mwaniki stealing an Equity Bank ATM card belonging to Stella Mogeni at an entertainment joint in Nakuru town on diverse dates of November this year before using it to withdraw Sh30,000.
According to the prosecution bench, the accused who had been a close friend to the complainant had retrieved the password of the card from the complainant’s mobile phone which he often had borrowed to use.
The court heard that on that material day the accused while in the company of the complainant at an entertainment joint had stole the card from her while she was under the influence of alcohol before withdrawing money from her account using it.
The prosecution added that the accused had gone in hiding but was traced by criminal investigations officers before being arrested on December 2 this year.
The complainant said that he had received a withdrawal notification on her mobile phone before sensing something was wrong.
He was released on a Sh50,000 bond with a similar surety or Sh30,000 bail.
The case will be heard on January 12.
