A man collapsed and died at an entertainment joint in Njoro town on Saturday night.
The incident caused tension in the night as local police who were called in tried to forcefully arrest several people to record a statement in connection with the incident.
The bar owner, Joseph Mwangi, who recorded a statement at the police station told this writer on phone that the man, identified as Humprey Okwemba, is a worker at a local flower farm factory. He was allegedly drinking with colleagues before he collapsed and died.
He said police arrested two of the colleagues while one of them escaped after the incident.
“I mobilised other patrons to restrain the colleagues from escaping after I sensed that they wanted to escape from the scene. I called the police and they arrested me and several other patrons to accompany them to the police station to record statements,” he added.
Mwangi said they were released after recording the statements and added that the police were still holding the colleagues of the deceased.
Police took the body of the deceased to Nakuru General Hospital for a post-mortem.
Njoro Police boss Emmanuel Ouma confirmed the incident and said that the two colleagues of the deceased would be held in detention to help with investigations as post mortem results are being waited.
