A 30-year-old man on Monday died after jumping from a moving ferry at the Likoni Crossing Channel.
Confirming the incident, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said the man, who is yet to be identified, jumped from MV Likoni which was heading to the island from the mainland.
Simba said efforts by Kenya Ferry Services divers to rescue the man were futile.
"They went after him immediately, pulled him out of the water and administered first aid but it was already too late," said Simba, as quoted by The Star.
Simba decried increased cases of attempted suicide at the channel, saying they might have been caused by “marital problems and challenges associated with high cost of living”.
He urged residents to seek professional help from counselors instead of turning to suicide.
The body was taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary.
