A family in Sameta village, Kisii County is mourning the death of a middle-aged man who committed suicide at his mother-in law's home.

Locals said that the man decided to take his life away simply because of his wife of five years rejected to reconcile with him after they differed and she went back home.

The rare incident has left residents shocked as the man identified as Evans Makori was found on Tuesday morning dangling in a room that he spent the night in.

Mr Henry Mirera the area chief said that the man followed his estranged wife who ran away following a quarrel with his wife and sought refuge at her mother's home.

“The man came to the home on Monday in his efforts to ensure that the wife gets back home and the family members have been trying to solve the issue and according to the family at the time he took his life on Tuesday night they had not found an amicable solution to the conflict between them” said Mirera. 

The chief added that the quarrel is said to have taken place on Wednesday last week at the man’s home in Kebirigo and the wife decided to seek refuge at their home only the man to appear on Monday demanding the duo to reconcile.

He further said that despite having talks with elders the woman totally refused to go back with her husband.

"The woman argued that she will not be safe with the husband who has turned out to be abusive," Mr Mirera said.

The body was moved to Kisii mortuary.
