William Omollo was on Monday found hanging dead with a belt around his neck in his business premise, which also served as his house, according to Idah Akinyi, his wife.

Witnesses said a foul smell and presence of flies in his shop raised the alarm over what had befallen the man who was last seen Saturday evening.

His uncle, Julius Okello, said they broke in and found the body that had started rotting hanging from the roof of the tinned shop.

He said Omollo had in the two weeks to his demise taken to heavy drinking and looked deeply troubled.

“Although he was an introvert who never talked much, in the last two weeks he was visibly disturbed,” said Okello.

Akinyi said her husband had exhibited a strange behaviour since they were last together in February.

“Although we have never had any qualms and whenever contacted he would say he was okay, he occasionally switched off his phone for up to three weeks and never came home as before,” she said.

His strange behaviour, she said, climaxed in October when he was asked to attend a prayer day at the school where his son was to sit his KCSE examination.

“He said he would come but failed to and switched off his phone for two weeks,” said Akinyi, adding that the deceased had previously been a very supportive husband.

Police took the body and said a post-mortem examination would establish the cause of his death.
