A man in South Mugirango's Ekona village has shocked residents after committing suicide following a quarrel with his wife over unfaithfulness.
Patrick Onsarigo, 30, took his life after a quarrel over a suspected infidelity carried out by his wife, Carolyne Moraa.
According to witnesses, Onsarigo, a staunch Christian who works as a watchman in Kisii town, arrived home late in the evening without knowledge of his wife after being tipped that an anonymous man had been having an affair with Moraa.
Trouble started when Onsarigo insisted on knowing more about the allegations from the wife, who declined to talk, resulting in a fight between the two, according to witnesses. It’s after this that the wife managed to escape, leaving her frustrated husband to commit suicide.
“They had a lengthy squabble over infidelity claims which later escalated into fierce fighting," John Manduku, Onsarigo's younger brother, said.
"The wife managed to escape while [the] husband did the unthinkable.”
According to Manduku, efforts to rescue the deceased proved futile since he had locked the main door and windows, making the place inaccessible.
“I suspected danger and we tried to reach him to make a consensus with the wife only to realise he had locked everywhere,” he added.
Area chief Momisa Ombaba confirmed the incident and urged area residents to remain calm and wait for the outcome of investigations by the police.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital, awaiting a postmortem examination as police launched a hunting mission for the wife.
