A man identified as Victor Odindo and his daughter were on Wednesday afternoon buried in a quarry while harvesting sand in Lela.
The neighbors claimed that the 3-year old girl was watching his father harvesting sand before the land collapsed burying both of them.
It was good luck that the man had his hands in the air which he used to wave and signal the locals.
On noticing what had happened, the residents dug out the sand and found the man and his daughter alive.
Speaking to a Hivisasa writer, the victim thanked God for rescuing them and vowed not to harvest sand again.
“I thank God I am alive today. It’s a miracle to me. Right now I am feeling very weak. We need to be in hospital especially my daughter," he said.
The two were rushed by police to Maseno Mission Hospital for treatment.
The area chief Oscar M. warned the residents not to continue harvesting sand during this rainy season. He noted that legal action will be taken against those found engaging in the activity.
