A middle-aged man was on Wednesday arraigned in a Thika court and charged with defiling a minor.
Mwangi Mwaura appeared before chief magistrate Stephen Mbungi and was charged with the offence which is contrary to section 8(1)2 of the Sexual Offence act no. 3.
The accused, who was appearing for the third time in court, is said to have committed the heinous act in Igikiro area of Murang’a County where he allegedly defiled the young girl on her way to school. The girl is a standard five pupil at Igikiro primary school.
The court heard that on November 27, 2014, the accused ambushed the girl on her way to school, pulled her in a bush and defiled her. The accused left the girl helpless in the bush.
The court also heard that the girl was rescued by well-wishers who heard her crying from the bush and rushed her to Igikiro dispensary where it was revealed that the girl had been raped.
The prosecution said that they arrested the man three weeks later after the girl testified on what happened. The accused was arraigned in court on December last year where he denied the charges and was remanded
The case will be heard on February 11, 2014.
