A 35 year-old-man on Friday appeared before a Nakuru court to face charges of selling fake fertilizer and for allegedly being in possession of 300kg of the farm inputs.
Resident chief magistrate Alex Kombo heard that on November 20, at a farm products outlet in Njoro, Joseph Muraya was found in possession of packed counterfeit fertilizer after having sold it to various farmers at a cheap price.
According to the charge sheet, the accused on diverse dates in September, October and November this year, sold counterfeit goods to several people in Njoro town, prompting suspicion and investigations into the viability of the product packed in a 1kg plastic containers.
The prosecution said the accused was arrested after members of the public tipped police, who raided his shop and arrested him with the fake farm product.
The court heard that an agricultural officer, John Mwiti, helped police to identify the fake fertilizer, worth Sh200,000, after arresting the suspect who was held at Njoro police station.
The accused denied the charges and was released on a Sh100,000 bond. The case continues on December 29.
