A 35-year old man denied charges of stealing green vegetables from his neighour’s farm, when he appeared before a court in Nakuru on Friday to face the charges.
Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Mwaniki, was told that on October 12 at around 9.30pm in Kwa Mwaura village in Njoro Sub-county, the accused Alex Kimani, was caught harvesting sukuma wiki vegetables after illegally entering his neighbour’s farm.
The prosecution bench told the court that the complainant Geoffrey Wainaina laid a trap to find out the culprit, after noticing on several days unusual harvesting signs in his one-acre sukuma wiki commercial farm.
On that material day, the complainant nabbed the accused harvesting the vegetables while stuffing them in a 90kg sack, with an intention of distributing them to local retail vegetable sellers.
The court heard that the complainant, helped by his family members and other neighbours, arrested and handed the culprit over to Njoro Police station, where he was detained.
The accused was released on a Sh10, 000 cash bond, with the case set to be heard on November 20.
