Kennedy Wanjala Wekesa was accused of stealing the rice from a warehouse in Shanzu area within Mombasa County.

The prosecution told the court that he committed the crime on different dates between May 5 and 25 this year.

The court heard that Wekesa broke into the building housing a company warehouse and stole 1,930 bags of rice.

The prosecution told Mombasa Chief Magistrate Julius Nang’ea that the accused committed the crime jointly with others not before the court.

Magistrate Nang’ea was told that Wekesa and his accomplices on the different dates stole the bags of rice which are said to weigh 25kg all valued at Sh3,381,000.

He, however, denied the charges before the court and pleaded to be released on a reasonable bail term which the prosecution did not oppose.

He was released on a bond of Sh500,000 pending hearing on July 14.
