The man identified as Wainaina Kamunyu was a known as an alcoholic by villagers saying that a day could hardly end without the man drinking.

The man is the second one to die in the area as a result of taking illicit liquor in two weeks.

"Alcohol has become a major problem in this area and young people continue to indulge themselves in it without thinking about the future," the area Sub-Chief Patrick Mwangi told this writer.

Mwangi has said that the areas of Mitahato, Ngenia and Kwa- Maiko are the worst affected saying that bars open as early as 6 am.

"In the morning you find people drunk and when you ask them they tell you they are 'removing lock' and you wonder where we are headed to," he added.

The chief has now asked the County Government licensing board to intervene and close some of the bars operating illegally.

Wainaina allegedly consumed a spirit.
