Confirming the incident, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said the man identified as Mr Zacharia Mbuvi, collapsed aboard MV Kwale and was taken to hospital.

Mr Simba said the man who was crossing from Likoni to Mombasa was pronounced dead on arrival at the Coast General Hospital.

According to the OCPD, Mr Mbuvi allegedly developed breathing complications that led to his death.

“I received a report from Kenya Ferry Service officials that a middle-aged man had collapsed while on board the ferry. The man became unconscious and he was rushed to the Coast General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” said Mr Simba.

The OCPD added that they have launched investigations into the incident.

An eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity said the man developed breathing difficulties and the workers on board the ferry tried to save his life by performing first day on him.

“When the ferry docked, the ferry officials rushed the man who had collapsed to the hospital,” said the witness.
