A man on Wednesday died after taking two litres of local brew popularly known as changaa.

Sande Apewe from Matayos Busia died shortly after being admitted to the Busia County Teaching and Referral Hospital in Busia town after complaining of a sharp stomach ache and dizziness.

Busia Police boss Masai Makau who confirmed the incodent said the Sande was among a group of six men who had take part in an illicit brew drinking competition at Burumba village at the outskirts of Busia town along the Busia-Kisumu Highway.

Sande is said to have claimed he can take five litres of the illicit beer for Sh5,000.

One of the men who was drinking at the same joint is said to have offered the cash.

The deceased, however, surrendered after consuming two litres in less than three minutes. He collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he died from.

Masai said police have launched a manhunt for the owner of the drinking joint as well the man who offered the cash that cut Sande's life.

His body was taken to the Busia County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary where a postmortem will be conducted from.
