According to his colleagues who witnessed the incident, the man had been trying to dive in vain but when he succeeded, he decided to repeat to prove his ability.

The colleagues said that they waited for him to reappear on water only to notice blood colouration in the water, in the area he had jumped in.

Confirming the incident, Thika Sub-county police boss Shadrack Maithya said that the police received information through a phone call from a Good Samaritan and they acted with speed trying to save the deceased but in vain.

Maithya added that the officers found the deceased’s body in the water one hour after the search commenced but unfortunately he had bled a lot and died.

The police boss has warned those who use the river for swimming to take caution while trying to dive.

“We urge the people who swim in the river to be careful in such instances as there are numerous stones inside. The deceased may have been hit on the head and we regret his death,” Maithya said.

The body of the deceased was taken to Thika Level Five Hospital morgue.
